2013-04-21: Congratulations to Joey "Jaws" Chestnut on his dominating victory in Chicken Wings at the Pork in the Park Barbecue Festival in Salisbury, MD on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Joey topped me (with 159) by a whopping 49 Wings with his 208 total in 12 minutes. Eater X, Tim Janus, was only seven behind me in third with 152. It was a real fun day! George Shea was masterful as always as emcee, as was long-time competitive eater, documentary movie actor, and writer Crazy Legs Conti, who shared the mic with George during the 6-minute amateur undercard.
Exciting News: Congratulations to newcomer Miki Sudo who set the competitive eating world on fire yesterday by downing 40 Nathan's Hot Dogs and Buns (HDBs) in 10 minutes, earning her a spot right next to me in the center of the table at the Nathan's Finals at Coney Island on July 4th. Michelle "Cardboard Shell" Lesco also likely qualified for the Finals by eating 2 dozen HDBs. That's no misprint, folks; Miki ate 40! That's only five away from the world record I set July 4 last year, and she will likely improve by a handful of dogs from Saturday's showing.
Competitive eating is so fortunate to have a lady of Miki's talents come along, and competing against each other will not only make us both better eaters, it will make people take notice of competitive eating's women's division, one in which the talent of its members is rapidly improving. I welcome Miki to Major League Eating (MLE) with open arms! The men had really better watch out now, as the MLE women have some help, big time!
2013-04-15: Thanks to Ignatius Rake and staff at the Rake and Herald for covering the Rouses Market Crawfish-Eating Contest in New Orleans this past weekend. I'm really happy to be noted as one of that source's favorite competitive eaters.
2013-04-06: Kudos to Pete "Pretty Boy" Davekos and Dee Martin on winning the men's and women's divisions, respectively, of the Savannah, GA regional qualifier, earning them a spot at the Nathan's Finals table on Coney Island on July 4th.
2013-03-23: Congratulations to Notorious B.O.B. (Bob Shoudt) and Larell Marie Mele on winning respective men's and women's divisions in today's Coney Island Boardwalk Nathan's Famous Hotdog-Eating Contest Finals qualifier, the first of 2013. More than any other event, competitive eaters look forward to the Nathan's Finals held each year on July 4, which showcases the most talented Major League Eaters in the world. It is the Super Bowl of our sport, which I've had the pleasure and blessing of being a part of since 2003.
